Have you ever studied a word for an hour and forgotten it by the next week? You are not alone. Our memory does not keep everything we learn. If we do nothing, most new information fades after a few days. Scientists have studied this problem for more than a hundred years, and they found a simple solution called spaced repetition.

The idea is easy to understand. Instead of studying one word ten times in one night, you study it a few times over many days. You see the word today, again tomorrow, then after three days, after one week, and after one month. Each time, you wait a little longer than before. The waiting is important. When you try to remember a word after a gap, your brain works harder, and that hard work makes the memory stronger.

Think about a path in a garden. If you walk on it once, the grass stands up again. If you walk on it every few days, the path becomes clear and easy to follow. A memory works in the same way. Every review is another walk on the path.

Spaced repetition also saves time. Easy words come back less often, so you do not waste time on them. Difficult words come back more often, so you give your energy where it is needed. Many language learners use paper flashcards in small boxes, and others use apps that choose the next review day for them. Both ways work.

How can a beginner start? Write ten new words on cards, with English on one side and Arabic on the other. Study them today. Tomorrow, look at the Arabic side and try to say the English word before you turn the card. If you are right, keep the card for a longer break. If you are wrong, see it again tomorrow. Five minutes a day is enough to begin.

Remember one more thing: a review should be short and calm. You do not need to feel tired. A little practice at the right time is better than a lot of practice at the wrong time.
