A big oak tree stands by a river. Next to it, there is a small reed. “I am big and strong,” says the oak. “You are small and weak.” The reed is quiet. She bends in the wind.

One night, a big storm comes. The wind blows very hard. The reed bends low. The wind goes over her. The oak does not bend. She says, “I am too strong for the wind!”

The wind blows harder. Crack! The oak falls into the river. In the morning, the sun comes out. The reed stands up again. “You are strong,” says the oak, “but you do not bend. I understand now.”
